Its the small records sometimes

Super happy I crossed this 45 off my want list this month. Its the perfect meeting of gospel and house and Spinna used to play it on W…B…L…S! Its a great record and its not pricey.

Bandcamp for the win!

Bandcamp for the win!

Bandcamp’s first Friday promo where it waives the fees the artists pays has been a welcome bright spot as of late. Ive been missing buying records in stores, but this feels like a great incentive to do more online digging. House is another genre I find hard to dig for sometimes, but this release from Teflon Don’s is exactly what I was looking for. Gimme a whole crate of this gritty 90s house please!

Why I made a mix of Reggae Covers

Why I made a mix of Reggae Covers

Deep diving into Reggae music has always felt overwhelming. It never ceases to amaze me that an Island as small as Jamaica has produced so many records and influenced so many other music scenes. The fierce competition for resources and the rise of sound system culture definitely birthed a unique resourcefulness and I think this is apparent in the many covers of American classics. Without even realizing it, Ive started to build my collection with Lovers Rock covers that honestly stand out on their own. Usually covers are very risky, but a lot of them did enough justice to the original while still sounding different and its because they had to in order to get played. I started with this chosen few one of a classic Stylistics tune and now I can’t stop. Send help! Or more covers on 45. Annndddd listen to the mix I did!
